After coming out of last nights game, CJ Abrams is headed to the IL with a hip flexor strain
After a big win last night, the Washington Nationals got some bad news before todays game. Their star shortstop CJ Abrams is headed to the 10-day IL.
We have made the following roster moves:
– INF Nasim Nuñez recalled from Triple-A Rochester
– SS CJ Abrams placed on the 10-day IL— Washington Nationals (@Nationals) April 12, 2025
The news was not that much of a surprise after CJ exited yesterdays game. He re-aggravated the right hip flexor strain that kept him out of a couple games in the Dodgers series.
In his place, slick defender Nasim Nunez is coming up to the Big Leagues. Expect Paul DeJong to get the bulk of the workload at shortstop in Abrams absence. Jose Tena and Amed Rosario will cover DeJong’s normal third base spot.
This is a big blow to the Nationals as well as CJ. Abrams was off to a great start, posting an .874 OPS in his first 11 games. He also hit four home runs in that time. His power/speed combination is really going to be missed at the top of the Nationals lineup.
With Abrams out, I am looking for Dylan Crews to step up his game. He has gotten off to a miserable start, but has the talent to pick it up. Now it is time for him to show it.
After so much good news the past week, this is a tough blow for the Nats. However, they still need to take care of business and rack up the wins on this road trip.
