The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration is calling on young artists to unleash their creativity for the second annual Earth Day Art Competition.
Open to Maryland youth aged 5 to 17, the contest encourages participants to highlight the link between public transportation and sustainability through their artwork.
Finalists will see their creations featured on a specially wrapped bus, turning it into a moving tribute to sustainability and art. The deadline for submissions is March 17.
“Engaging the next generation in public transit and sustainability is crucial to building a more sustainable future,” said Maryland Transit Administrator Holly Arnold, via a news release. “We are thrilled to provide a platform for these talented young people to showcase the positive impact of transit on our environment.”
In addition to the bus display, the winning pieces will be showcased in the Maryland State Department of Education State Superintendent’s Student Gallery on Baltimore Street.
Last year, nearly 50 submissions poured in from across the state, with finalists hailing from Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Montgomery County and Prince George’s County.
