The second game of the Orioles’ doubleheader against the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night will begin at approximately 8:30 p.m. following a weather delay, the team announced.
After a 2-hour, 58-minute first game, the second contest was scheduled to begin at 6:50 p.m. before being pushed back nearly two hours because of inclement weather in the forecast.
Baltimore won the first game, 11-5, behind a quality start from Zach Eflin in his Orioles debut and an explosive offensive output. They scored four runs in the first inning on just one hit as Blue Jays starter Yariel Rodríguez struggled with his command. The right-hander hit catcher James McCann in the face with a 94 mph fastball to bring in the final run of the frame, which sent a bloodied McCann to the ground and brought out trainers for a lengthy meeting.
He remained in the game and finished it, catching the rest of Eflin’s start and going 1-for-3 at the plate. Manager Brandon Hyde said after the game that McCann escaped a head or eye injury but likely has a broken nose. He’ll get a CT scan on Tuesday.
