Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Thursday, Dec. 12.
Boys basketball
Towson 65, Lake Clifton 61: The Generals picked up a big nonconference win behind four double-figures scorers. Korey Collins led the balanced attack with 16 points. Devaughn West was right behind him with 15. Seven Wheeler and Jeremiah Harris each netted 14 points with Wheeler dishing out seven assists, grabbing seven rebounds and collecting five steals. Harris added six rebounds.
McDonogh 68, Rosedale Christian 45: Ben Orthwein scored 19 points to lead the host Eagles (4-1) over the Panthers. Jaisuan Williams had a game-high 20 points for Rosedale. Saturday, McDonogh travels to Annapolis Area Christian.
Patterson Mill 66, Elkton 52: James Hammond poured in 25 points to lead the Huskies to the win. Colin Luddy backed him with 17 points.
C. Milton Wright 62, Joppatowne 42: Dylan Sander had a game-high 24 points and 17 rebounds to lead the host Mustangs (3-0) over the Mariners (3-1). C.M. Wright used a 20-0 run in the second half to pull away. Kyle Ashman had 19 points.
Edgewood 80, Havre de Grace 61: The host Rams (3-0) scored 33 points in the third quarter to pull away from the Warriors (2-1). Josiah Lawrence scored a game-high 26 points for Havre de Grace.
North Harford 53, Bel Air 50: The Hawks’ Jason Brady led the way with 19 points and five rebounds in his team’s first victory of the season.
Girls basketball
Patterson Mill 67, Elkton 21: Rylie Madsen scored 25 points to lead the visiting Huskies (4-0) over the Golden Elks (1-2). Zoe Valan and Isabell Robertson each scored eight for Patterson Mill. The Huskies host Havre de Grace on Tuesday.
Manchester Valley 47, Winters Mill 20: The host Mavericks (2-1, 1-0 Carroll) were led by Emma Penczek (8 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 steals) and Emma Shaffer (10 points, 8 steals). Cielo Balsomo had eight points for the Falcons (2-1, 1-0).
Howard 52, Atholton 35: The Lions (2-1, 1-0 Sierra Division) earned their first division win of the season. Charlotte Mager led the way with 15 points, while Paige Watson added 10. For Atholton (3-1, 1-1 Sierra), Julianna Blair had 10 points.
Wrestling
Dundalk 45, Parkville 36; Dundalk 56, Chesapeake 36: The Owls racked up a pair of county dual wins during a tri-meet. The Owls were led by two pins from Richard Vargas (11-0 on season), Brandon Brown (10-1), Franklin Tracey and Gavin Dosch (4-0). Getting a pin and a decision were Clayton Fraser (10-1), Dylan Holt (10-1) and Joel Verdier (10-1). In his first official match, freshman Ali Elshafei secured the win against Parkville with a pin.
Reservoir 49, Centennial 26: Aaron Aquino (113) and Andrew Dolezel (138) each had pins for Reservoir, while both Sawyer Noonan (120) and Gerson Guillen (175) won by technical fall. Samuel Pautrat (215) also won by regular decision for Reservoir. For Centennial, Grady Conrad (144), Calvin Kraisser (157) and Matthew Sedor (190) had pins, while Will Schmitt (165) won by technical fall.
