Norfolk gave up 15 hits, Chesapeake lost a pitchers’ duel, and the IronBirds’ Ethan Anderson hit a grand slam.
Triple-A: Gwinnett Stripers (ATL) 12, Norfolk Tides 8
Sorry to say—from the first Norfolk pitching was bad. Starter Cameron Weston walked his first three hitters, let all of them score, then in his next inning he allowed a triple, a HBP and a homer. Weston did get five more outs after that, so that’s good. Nate Webb relieved Weston and allowed one run in 1.1 innings. Cody Poteet pitched a good sixth inning, but allowed five runs in the seventh and couldn’t retire anyone in the eighth. At least Corbin Martin and Grant Wolfram pitched well, each with a scoreless inning to end the game.
With twelve hits themselves, the Tides’ offense more than held up their end of the bargain, it’s just hard to overcome twelve runs on fifteen hits allowed by your pitchers. Coby Mayo went 2-for-2 with a home run and walked three times. Here he is, bopping.

Jud Fabian hit his team-leading fifth home run. Dylan Beavers singled and walked. Dylan Carlson went 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Vimael Machín hit three singles and drove in three runs. Emmanuel Rivera had two hits.
Double-A: SeaWolves 1, Baysox 0
Despite four doubles, no Baysock crossed the plate on Sunday, alas. Authors of the two-baggers were Jeremiah Jackson, Silas Ardoin, and Douglas Hodo (who had two). Creed Willems took an 0-for-3 in the leadoff spot, but walked. So did Anthony Servideo. The Chesapeake offense is struggling right now, with only three hitters topping an OPS of .640.
But hey, the pitching didn’t give up much either. Patrick Reilly took a hard-luck loss, but he pitched great, going 4.1 innings on 76 pitches with three hits allowed, one earned run, one walk, and five strikeouts. He allowed the game’s only run when in one inning he walked a batter, threw two wild pitches (whoops—gotta get on the same page with catcher Adam Retzbach), and gave up a single. After Reilly, Juan Núñez struck out three, Dylan Coleman pitched a scoreless inning, and Peter Van Loon allowed two hits in two innings, but no runs.
High-A: IronBirds 11, BlueClaws 7
Sunday was a great day for recent Orioles draft picks away on the road in Jersey Shore. The BlueClaws had themselves a 5-1 lead before Aberdeen exploded with a nine-run fifth inning. Some of the highlights: Ethan Anderson hit a grand slam. Aron Estrada and Anderson de los Santos had RBI singles. Jalen Vasquez knocked in a two-run double. Not one, not two, but four IronBirds batted around that inning. It was a good time.
Not surprisingly, every IronBird reached base at least once, seven with a hit or better. Vance Honeycutt reached base four times with a home run, single, and two walks. Aron Estrada singled twice. Grand salami author Ethan Anderson went 2-for-4 and walked. Ryan Stafford singled twice, stole a base and scored twice.
Not much was asked of the IronBirds staff today, and for that much they were equal to the task. Nestor Germán had a weird day: he struck out six hitters in less than three innings but also lost his command and walked four. Yaramil Hiraldo threw two innings, allowing a run. Juan Rojas pitched two scoreless, hitless innings but also walked four. And Juan de los Santos allowed a walk, a HBP and a two-run double before he closed out the game.
Low-A: Woodpeckers 6, Shorebirds 0
Probably the best thing to report here is that three Delmarva pitchers had shutout outings—Simon Leandro (1.1 IP), Jacob Cravey (4.2 IP), Carter Rustad (1.2 IP)—it was just the starting pitcher and closer who looked bad. Starter Sebastian Gongora faced five batters and retired just one, ending up with an 0.1 IP, 4 R, 3 BB line and a 20.25 ERA. Ouch. And Andrés Nolaya, as closer, allowed two more runs to score.
The offense had just five hits in the shutout, one apiece from Miguel Rodríguez, Braylin Tavera, Edwin Amparo, Maikol Hernández, and Edrei Campos. Amparo’s double was the team’s only extra base hit. Fernando Peguero stole his fourth bag of the season.
