Both Ramón Urías and Jordan Westburg recorded a hit in a Norfolk victory.
Triple-A: Norfolk Tides 8, Nashville Sounds (Brewers) 4
Ramón Urías and Jordan Westburg both took a significant step toward rejoining the Orioles by beginning rehab assignments with the Tides. Westburg earned a spot on the AL All-Star team before fracturing his right hand nearly two months ago. Urías had recently emerged as one of Baltimore’s hottest hitters before spraining his ankle three weeks ago.
Urías ripped a single to left field in his first at bat of the game. He finished 1-for-3 before leaving the game for a late-inning replacement. Westburg received five at bats from the leadoff spot. He delivered an RBI-single over the shortstop’s head and worked a walk.
Brandon Hyde shared yesterday that Ryan Mountcastle is “not that far away, either.”
Samuel Basallo and Dylan Beavers teamed up for back-to-back doubles to get Norfolk on the board in the third. Beavers finished 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs, while Basallo went 1-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored.
Jud Fabian matched Beavers with a pair of hits, and Maverick Handley scored twice after a single and base on balls.
Trevor Rogers started and came an out shy of a quality start. He allowed four hits and three runs over 5.2 innings. The 26-year-old struck out seven and walked a pair. Does anyone think Rogers could represent an upgrade over any of the relievers currently with the Orioles?
Levi Stoudt picked up the win with 2.1 innings of one-run ball. He recorded five of his seven outs via strikeout.
Nick Vespi posted a scoreless frame in a non-save situation.
