In the trade between two teams that could be facing one another in the World Series, the Orioles have acquired reliever Seranthony Domínguez from the Phillies. With the trade deadline quickly approaching, the Orioles made their first big move, adding a much-needed arm to their bullpen. Baltimore announced a trade, sending veteran outfielder Austin Hays to Philadelphia in exchange for reliever Seranthony Domínguez and outfielder Cristian Pache. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Orioles have designated right-hander Levi Stoudt for assignment.

Orioles Acquire Veteran Reliever In Trade With Phillies
One year removed from his first All-Star nod, Hays has slashed .255/.316/.395 with a 106 OPS+ in 63 games for Baltimore this season. Despite somewhat of a down year, the 29-year-old outfielder has continued to dominate left-handed pitching, slashing .328/.394/.500. His .394 on-base percentage ranks 31st among the 212 hitters who have faced at least 70 lefties this season. Drafted by the Orioles in 2016, Hays spent the past three seasons as Baltimore’s primary left fielder. However, with the emergence of lefty-hitting outfielders Colton Cowser and Heston Kjerstad, Hays has shifted to a platoon role. Austin Hays will give the Phillies a more impactful right-handed bat in their outfield mix.
Similarly, the newly acquired Seranthony Domínguez is also experiencing a down year, though he boasts a significantly stronger track record. Domínguez has appeared in 230 games for Philadelphia, sporting a 3.55 career ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 253 strikeouts. The 29-year-old righty is a hard-throwing middle reliever with high-leverage experience and has sometimes operated as the Phillies closer.
As for Pache, the 25-year-old outfielder has made 50 appearances for the Phillies this year, batting just .202/.288/.269. Given the plethora of left-hitting hitting outfielders in Baltimore’s system, the right-hitting Pache will likely serve as a depth piece.
Hays and Domínguez are under club control through 2025, with Hays under another year of arbitration and Domínguez carrying a $500,000 club option.
