Will Santa gift Orioles fans a Corbin Burnes for the holidays?
The Night Before Christmas (Orioles offseason edition)
’Twas the night before Christmas, and all through Birdland
The front office snoozed, to the anger of fans.
They’d signed Tomoyuki, and Tyler, and Gary,
But their lack of a top starting pitcher was scary.
Their search for an ace wasn’t going too well.
They missed out on Fried and Crochet and Blake Snell.
The Yankees and Red Sox are just getting stronger.
The O’s can’t afford to stay quiet much longer.
Lift up our spirits and land Dylan Cease,
Roki Sasaki or Castillo, Luis.
At this point we’d settle for signing Pivetta
Or even Jack Flaherty, for worse or for betta.
But the single best way to ease fans’ concerns:
Pay up the pitcher for whom Birdland yearns.
The best gift of all is if this guy returns.
Happy Christmas to all, now go SIGN CORBIN BURNES.

With Basallo’s big league debut nearing, Orioles’ international program showing strength – BaltimoreBaseball.com
Just how hopeless in the international market did the Orioles used to be? As Rich Dubroff notes, the last O’s-produced Dominican player to play for them was…Pedro Florimon in 2011. Samuel Basallo should be ending that drought soon.
Taking stock of the current Baltimore rotation – Steve Melewski
I have to disagree with Melewski’s optimism about the current O’s rotation. When Dean Kremer is your projected #3 starter, that’s not good enough in the AL East. No offense to Dean, of course.
Leftovers for breakfast – School of Roch
In case you missed it, Bruce Zimmermann has left his hometown organization, signing a minor league deal with the Brewers. Good luck to the Baltimore kid with his new club.
Orioles birthdays and history
Is today your birthday? Happy birthday! Three players in O’s history were born on Christmas Eve: right-handers Miguel Castro (30) and Kevin Millwood (50) and the late infielder Chico García (b. 1924, d. 2007), a member of the inaugural 1954 Orioles.
Unsurprisingly, the Orioles haven’t made many roster moves on Christmas Eve. Their last one came a decade ago, when they signed lefty César Cabral as a minor league free agent. Cabral appeared in two games for the 2015 Orioles, the last of his brief, 14-game major league career.
