The Go-Go finished the first part of the G League season with an 11-5 record.
Last week, the Capital City Go-Go, the Wizards’ G League affiliate, beat the Stockton Kings, 112-108. That was its final game of the NBA G League Winter Showcase, leaving the Go-Go with an 11-5 record in the G League’s Tip Off Tournament, which is the first stage of G League competition. The 11-5 record was the team’s best for the Tip Off Tournament in franchise history.
The G League will now move into its official regular season play. The Go-Go are back in action on December 29th to face the Grand Rapids Gold at 3:00 p.m. at the Entertainment & Sports Arena. The game will be broadcast on Monumental+ and NBAGLeague.com.
Go-Go wing Jaylen Nowell has been producing at an extremely high level, averaging 27.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists through six games. He’s shooting a blazing 57.6% from three-point range on 5.5 attempts per game.
He was especially effective against the Kings, recording a season-high 37 points, while shooting 7-9 from three. Sixteen of Nowell’s 37 points came in the first quarter after going 4-4 from three. Nowell looks like he could contribute for the Wizards right now if called upon.
Former West Virginia guard Erik Stevenson continued to be a microwave scorer off the bench, chipping in 19 points and 6 rebounds. He finished the Tip Off portion of the season averaging 18.9 points per game through 16 games.
Recent addition Jalen McDaniels hauled in a season-high 13 rebounds to go with 9 points. The multi-year NBA contributor is averaging 12.3 points, 7 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1 block through 8 games with the Go-Go.
The Go-Go head into the regular season with the 9th-best offense and 12th-best defense amongst the 31 teams in the G League. That and a balanced scoring attack should allow them to compete for a G League Championship this season.
