Winger seems to prefer a more horizontal or flat organization than what’s standard for most professional basketball teams.
Monumental Basketball President Michael Winger has been reported to want the next Washington Mystics General Manager and Head Coach to report to him. This goes against what most teams typically do, where a General Manager is in charge of the coach.
Why would Winger want both the GM and Head Coach to report to him? Perhaps he wants more control over the process and how both positions influence the Mystics’ future. Or perhaps Winger is more deliberate about having an explicitly flat or horizontal organizational structure. This could allow for a more collaborative approach with team building.
