It’s been mere days since Mike Dunleavy Jr. took over as general manager of the Golden State Warriors and he’s already making blockbuster moves. But he may have misspoken in a recent comment about Jordan Poole.
On June 19, Dunleavy declared that he expected to have Poole around for “four more years, at least.” Apparently, by four years he meant three days.
Today the Warriors included Poole in a trade package to acquire 12-time All-Star Chris Paul from the Washington Wizards. Paul is an obvious upgrade from Poole, so it’s hard to really admonish Dunleavy for pulling the trigger.
Fans had some rather interesting replies to seeing Dunleavy tell what was pretty clearly a bald-faced lie:

“Not our Dubs new GM blatantly lying in his first real press conference. Say it ain’t so,” one user wrote.
“Four more DAYS… FOUR MORE DAYS… I hate it when I get my years/days mixed up,” wrote another.
“He can’t even spell Paul right it’s joever for them get someone else in FO,” joked a third.
But the Warriors can probably tolerate any kind of lie if it means getting another NBA title. Trading for Chris Paul definitely makes that more likely.
