The Washington Mystics’ third round pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft is heading for the bus trip (remember, Belgium’s next to France) to Lille!
On Tuesday, Basketball Belgium announced that Lyon guard Julie Allemand cannot play in the 2024 Olympics in France due to injury. Nastja Claessens, who played for Castors Braine last season, will replace her.
Unlucky injury for our point god.

Claessens is the Washington Mystics’ third round pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, but she is a draft-and-stash for now. She will play for IDK Euskotren in the Spanish Liga Femenina in the 2024-25 season.
For the Cats, I don’t see this affecting their medal chances very much. Washington Mystics guard Julie Vanloo will be starting and play at the point guard position anyway. After all, she is why this is … de tweede, or la deuxième (or the second) post I wrote about them today. We will also get to see Vanloo play more minutes if anything.
Now, if the Cats can take care of business in most of their group stage game games in the Olympics, Mystics fans can get an extended glimpse at one of their draft picks. And I’m not going to complain about that.
