The Mystics narrowly fell to the Sun without Aaliyah Edwards.
An Aaliyah Edwards-less Washington Mystics squad fell in overtime to the Connecticut Sun, 94-91.
The Mystics had won 4 of 5 games heading into tonight’s matchup after a disastrous 0-12 start, and they’ve seemed to figure things out as of late. Aaliyah Edwards has been great as a rookie (especially as a rebounder), Julie Vanloo has been a gem out of Europe, and Myisha Hines-Allen has been a force off the bench and Ariel Atkins is steering the turnaround, averaging 14.8 points per game.
Tonight Hines-Allen led the way for Washington with 21 points. Stefanie Dolson added 18 points and continued a great three-point shooting season by draining four of seven from downtown.
Dewanna Bonner and Tyasha Harris went off for the Sun, combining for nearly 50 points. The Sun can’t be letting teams like the Mystics play them so close if they want to be seen as true inner-circle contenders, but a win is a win and they advance to 14-3.
The Mystics have now regained sole possession of the worst record in the WNBA at 4-14. The Mystics’ next game is Saturday against the floundering Las Vegas Aces at 2 p.m. EST.
