The Mystics had a tough night against the defending champs with many of their starters out.
The Washington Mystics lost to the Las Vegas Aces on Thursday, 98-77.
For the 2nd time in a week, the Mystics go toe-to-toe with the two-time defending champions, Aces. This time around, the Mystics struggled to stop the Aces’ offense. Aces were able to get their guards like Jackie Young and Kelsey Plum going early. Kelsey Plum torched the Mystics with four first-half threes, finishing with a game-high six made threes. That was part of the Aces’ attack as they finished the first half with 56 percent shooting from the field and 46 percent from behind the arc.
On the positive side, there were some positive contributions from Shatori Walker-Kimbrough, who was a big spark off the bench and finished with 19 points. Outside of Ariel Atkins, the starters just could not get it going, as she was the only starter in double figures. Without Stefanie Dolson, who was out due to illness, there was no way of truly spacing the floor and get the cleaner looks the Mystics has been able to in recent weeks.
The Mystics simply could not find a way to stop the Aces on offense. It felt like everything was clicking for this team tonight on the offensive end. Having Chelsea Gray back really has made a difference in the flow of their offense and it showed tonight against the Mystics. Aces would go up at much as 32 in this one and finished this one off to get their 6th straight win.
Mystics lose big to the Aces, but they will look to get back in the win column on Saturday against the Minnesota Lynx.
