R.I.P. President Carter.
The Washington Wizards will host the Houston Rockets tonight at 7 p.m. ET at Capital One Arena, one day after a major snowstorm hit the DMV with 6 to 10 inches in most of the area and after the U.S. Congress certified the Presidential Election results where Donald Trump defeated current U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris.
In addition, the D.C. area will continue to hold national political events with the state funeral of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, who died at the age of 100 on Dec. 29, 2024. Carter has his place in Wizards franchise history because he was the president when the then-Bullets won the 1978 NBA Finals against the Seattle SuperSonics, or the team now known as the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Bullets and then-owner Abe Pollin visited Carter in the White House on June 9, 1978 after an 11-mile parade that started in Prince George’s County, Md. and finished in Washington.
Carter will lie in state at the U.S. Capitol tonight and many streets in downtown Washington will be closed or limited to local traffic. 6th Street NW between F Street and Indiana Avenue will be limited to local traffic, where the former intersection is at the southeastern corner of Capital One Arena.
Take time to get to the arena if you plan on watching the game at the arena tonight. And Rest in Paradise President Carter.
