JP Estrella, the 6-foot-11 stretch big man from the Middlesex Magic AAU program and Brewster (N.H.) Academy, has impressed coaches at the NBA Top 100 Camp and has several more visits planned.
Ranked the No. 10 center in the Class of 2023 by 247Sports.com, Estrella drew coaches from Duke, Kansas, Tennessee, Marquette, UConn, Syracuse, and Penn State, among others. He picked up offers from blue bloods Duke and Kansas this month.
“I have already visited Marquette and Tennessee, and will be doing Iowa and Duke,” he said. “I also have an unofficial to UConn.”
JP Estrella scored an efficient 18 points to start the afternoon games at NBPA Top 100. 8-10 shooting with 2 3’s, showed his touch inside & out while also creating easy looks by working for deep post-up & rebounding positioning. @BrewsterHoops @MiddlesexMagic @jestrella_13 pic.twitter.com/aFJBwQ9xTY

Estrella will visit Iowa July 28-30 and hopes to visit Duke July 31-Aug. 2 although that is not firmed up yet.
He broke down some of his top suitors:
Kansas: “They really love my ability to stretch the floor and run the floor hard as well. They also love me when I’m back to the basket.”
Duke: “They also love I can stretch the floor and run hard. I have a great relationship with their whole staff and love my passing ability.”
Tennessee: “They love my versatility and my play-making game. They love to see me in the pick-and-pop situation and their coaching staff and I also have a great relationship.”
Iowa: “Their coaching staff is awesome and I talk to them a lot. They love that I run the floor very hard and do the little things in the game.”
Marquette: :They love my play-making ability and that I’m able to stretch the floor. I have a very good relationship with their whole staff as well.”
UConn: “They love my ability to get up and down, and that I have a soft touch in the paint. They also like that I can be in the pick and pop situation as well.”
Estrella, who is originally from South Portland, Maine, averaged 20.2 points, 11.1 rebounds and 4.1 blocks a game his junior season at South Portland High.
Said Middlesex Magic coach Mike Crotty:
“JP is a really dynamic player who blends great skill and athleticism. Offensively, he runs the floor at an amazing clip, scores inside, makes 3’s and is an excellent passer. Defensively, his athleticism, length and timing make him an excellent rim-protector and capable of guarding multiple positions.
“For the last two years JP has continually added layers to his game and worked on his body. All of his teammates gravitate to him. His work ethic and team first nature make him or the best teammates I have coached.”
