WHAT’S AT STAKE
This is THE game for both schools. The loser will start to wonder when or if that first Big East victory is coming this season. This is the last time that KenPom has Georgetown favored in league game this season. KenPom only slightly favors DePaul in the return game at Wintrust on Feb. 24. Blue Demons have recent history on their side in this series by winning 5 of the last 7.
FINALLY FAVORED
Georgetown is favored against DePaul on Saturday. At first glance that sentence sounds normal enough but when you dig a little deeper it’s a big deal. Using data on Oddsharks, Georgetown had been an underdog in their last 50 Big East games, including the conference tournament. The Hoyas were double-digit dogs in 26 of those games.
Georgetown was last favored in a Big East game on Feb. 27, 2021 at DePaul. The last time Georgetown was favored at home in the Big East was on Feb. 13, 2021 vs Butler. That was a streak of 24 games. Yeah, these numbers are pre-out of nowhere Big East Tournament run. It’s been a minute.
EPPS AVAILABILE?
Georgetown leading scorer Jayden Epps (right ankle) missed Tuesday’s home defeat to Creighton. After the game coach Ed Cooley said the Illinois-transfer was day-to-day. Georgetown did not provide an update on Friday.
