NOTES
Georgetown has lost 13 of the last 16 vs Creighton. The Hoyas last beat Creighton at home in 2020.
WHAT’S AT STAKE
Georgetown: The Hoyas have dropped their last five Big East openers. A victory tonight would both stop a long losing streak to Creighton and send the Hoyas about .500 for the first time since winning their opener in the 2019 season at Butler. That was 111 BE regular season games ago. Slow starts haven’t translated into success for Georgetown since realignment. Hoyas are 3-8 in openers since 2014, finishing above .500 in league play only once back in 2015. Big test – literally – for Thomas Sorber tonight vs Ryan Kalkbrenner. The key for Sorber is, as always, to stay out of foul trouble. Creighton has been up and down with a really tough schedule as Greg McDermott knew he had a good team and wanted to challenge them. Their victory vs No. 1 Kansas was obviously huge but now they are having to figure out a way to win without Texas Tech transfer Pop Isaacs. This will be the first game since Jayden Epps was named Big East Player of the Week. It’s nice to have some legit buzz around a conference opener against one of the teams predicted to earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
