WHAT’S AT STAKE
Seton Hall – The Pirates are the surprise of the league so far with their 3-1 start. And it’s not just three wins but it’s three wins over ranked teams in Connecticut, Marquette and at Providence. Picked below Georgetown in the preseason coaches poll, a loss to the Hoyas would do quite a bit of damage to the Pirates current resume that is trending towards NCAA Tournament worthy.
Georgetown – After earning a league victory by beating DePaul on Saturday, the Hoyas are looking to win consecutive conference games for the first time since 2021. Beating DePaul at home was absolutely needed by Ed Cooley as he tries to build up the culture. The next step would be to find a way to sneak up on a team with a pulse and Seton Hall certainly fits that bill.
Previewing the Pirates
Does Shaheen Holloway have the best backcourt in the Big East? You can certainly make the case with Kadary Richmond, Dre Davis and Al-Amir Dawes all playing at a very high level. Like their coach, this is just a tough team. The three players I just mentioned are all seniors with Dawes being a fifth-year guy. Dylan Addae-Wusu and Jaden Bediako round out the starting line-up that Holloway has used in all 15 games this eason. Addae-Wusu came over from St. John’s while the 6-10 big man Bediako came over from Santa Clara.
The Pirates aren’t the best 3-point shooting team in the league and they can get caught turning the ball over. Maybe we will see more zone from Cooley tonight trying to dare the Pirates into a shooting contest. If so, the Hoyas will have to be able to box out well as Seton Hall is currently the best in the league at grabbing offensive rebounds.
