When the Georgetown Hoyas parted ways with head basketball coach Patrick Ewing earlier this week, Hall of Fame coach Rick Pitino quickly began getting mentioned as a possible replacement.
But, the team is not currently considering Pitino as a candidate for the job, per college basketball insider Jeff Goodman.
Penn State head coach Micah Shrewsberry has reportedly emerged as one of the top candidates for the Hoyas’ vacancy.
Penn State’s Micah Shrewsberry has emerged as one of the leading candidates for the Georgetown opening, source told @Stadium.
I’m told Rick Pitino is currently not under consideration.

Pitino has found great success as head coach of the Iona basketball program over the past few seasons. The Gaels are looking to notch their second MAAC Tournament victory since the former Louisville head coach landed with the program in 2020.
Pitino and Iona are currently 26-7 and looking to make another trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Georgetown just finished another ugly season, notching a 7-25 record in 2022-23. Ewing’s team strung together 21 straight losses to close out the 2021-22 season, and saw little improvement this year.
It’s clear the Hoyas need a culture shift if they want to get back to the glory days of this historic program.
