The 7-foot freshman from New Zealand saw action in the Hoyas first six games before sitting out on Saturday against Albany with the injury that coach Ed Cooley initially referred to as ‘day-to-day’.
A product of the NBA Global Academy in Australia, Halaifonua was averaging three points and two rebounds in 13 minutes per game. He scored a season best six vs Mount St. Mary’s on Nov. 20.
This injury might make Cooley rethink his starting lineup as Thomas Sorber and Drew Fielder are now the only healthy options for the five spot. Cooley kept both Sorber and Fielder in the starting line-up vs UMBC.
