Stanford transfer Oziyah Sellers commits to St. John’s

St. John’s has secured its third transfer portal acquisition.

Stanford transfer Oziyah Sellers will play for the Red Storm next season, he announced on his Instagram on Wednesday.

“We are super excited to have Oziyah in our program,” said 2024-25 National Coach of the Year Rick Pitino. “Not only does he bring great experience and tremendous outside shooting but his workout on his visit was incredible. Oziyah has terrific size and an unbelievable attitude. He’s a great addition for Johnnies Basketball this season.”

The 6-foot-5 guard averaged 13.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists for Stanford in his junior year.

Prior to his time at Stanford, the California native spent his first two seasons at USC. Now, he will join Pitino as they look to retool a roster that dominated the BIG EAST for most of the season. Sellers played high school and college ball with St. John’s big man Vince Iwuchukwu.

“New York is the biggest media market in the world,” Karim Sellers, Oziyah’s father, told ZAGSBLOG. “Pitino is the greatest coach in college basketball and it’s a big stage.

“Oziyah is a lot like New Yorkers — gritty, hard-working and has a huge chip on his shoulders. He’s one of the hardest-working college basketball players.”

St. John’s is also adding Providence transfer Bryce Hopkins and Arizona State transfer Joson Sanon.

The program is also still in the running for high-profile transfers Xavian Lee out of Princeton, who visited St. John’s and is currently at Florida, and North Carolina wing Ian Jackson, who visited St. John’s last week.

“We need two guards,” Pitino said at the Final Four. “We got to bring in two guards, but we need a point guard.”
