The SEC is poised to make NCAA Tournament history in more ways than one.
The powerhouse league is set to put 13 teams in the Field of 68 — or 19% of the overall field — breaking the record of 11 teams set by the Big East in 2011.
On top of that, the SEC now projects as having two No. 1 seeds in No. 1-ranked Auburn and No. 4 Alabama.
No. 2 Duke and No. 3 Iowa State are the other projected 1 seeds, per ESPN’s Joe Lunardi and others.
The SEC has only had multiple No. 1 seeds once since 1979 — and that was in 1980 when LSU and Kentucky earned top seeds.
The SEC also leads the nation with six teams (Auburn 1st, Tennessee 4th, Florida 5th, Alabama 6th, Kentucky 11th, and Texas A&M 15th) ranked in the Top 16 of the NCAA’s NET rankings.
· The SEC leads the nation with eight teams ranked in the Top 25 and 13 in the Top 50 of the NET.
· SEC teams have amassed 64 Quad 1 wins and 107 wins against Quad 1 & 2 teams combined.
· The SEC averages 4.00 Quad 1 wins per team and 6.69 Quad 1+2 wins per team, both lead the nation.
· Eight SEC teams have at least four Quad 1 wins.
