KANSAS CITY — Three-star power forward Sincere Jones will take an official visit to Virginia Tech from June 13-14, he told ZAGSBLOG.com. The 6-foot-7, 195-pound forward from Churchland High School (VA) and the Boo Williams AAU program also said he’s hearing mainly from four schools.
“Offers wise I have Virginia Tech, Old Dominion, Robert Morris, Manhattan, Mississippi State, VCU and a few other more,” Jones said. “But the main schools that text me that haven’t offered are like UVA, Oklahoma State. Virginia Tech has been on me the most out of any school recruiting wise. They have been recruiting me very hard. And VCU. I like them. And Duquesne.”
Jones later said talking to him most consistently are Old Dominion, VCU, Duquesne and Virginia Tech. He broke down each of those options:
Virginia Tech: “I like the way they play. I was watching a few of their games last year. They had knock down shooters. They played good basketball to me. I’m definitely going to watch more on them this season though, just see how I fit in.”
On head coach Mike Young: “Oh, he’s very good. He came to see me work out, my practices. Always calling me almost everyday. It’s been great.”
VCU: “VCU has been recruiting me hard too. Since last year. Same with Virginia Tech. They just been recruiting me since last year. I like everything [about VCU] for real, for real. Especially one of [the coaches] is from my city. We’re very close, very cool with each other. And they recruit a lot of people out my state, it’s close to home. That’s what I like.” Assistant Darius Theus is the coach he was referring too.
Duquesne: “I like their coaching staff. They are very cool. They talk to me a lot. They rock with me a lot. They offered me after my last game of my high school season and they just been on me since.”
Old Dominion: “They reoffered me. They got a new staff. I’ve been talking to them as well.”
Besides the visit to Virginia Tech, Jones has no other officials planned. He will most likely take more after Peach Jam.
This past Memorial Day weekend in Kansas City, Jones averaged 7.2 points in 24.8 minutes per game. His best game came on Monday in a 75-65 win over Team Final, where he scored 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting and had a resounding blocked shot.
“I’m a very versatile wing,” Jones said of his game. “I can defend the two-through four. Very athletic, lob threat. Knock down a few jump shots, play good defense. Whatever you need me to do I’m able to do it. Set screens, defend, come off screens with the ball. Knock down jumpers. Finish at the rim. Get the team together, all of that.”
Both of Jones’ parents played basketball in high school. His favorite NBA player is Paul George.
Jones is ranked the No. 43 overall power forward and No. 13 player in the state of Virginia, giving him three-star status on 247Sports.
