The Big East Conference put a record 11 teams into the NCAA Tournament in 2011, but the powerhouse Southeastern Conference may break that record this year.
ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi currently has 13 SEC teams in the Field of 68 and says the SEC can definitely shatter the Big East record.
“They absolutely can,” he said Wednesday via text. “More likely 10-11 [teams], but the numbers will be there.”
The SEC made a major statement earlier this month when it absolutely molly whopped the ACC, 14-2, in the annual challenge between the two leagues.
Only one team in the 16-school league has more than two losses, and that’s South Carolina (8-3), which owns a win over No. 25 Clemson.
“It’s as good a league as I’ve seen ever,” said ESPN college basketball analyst Fran Fraschilla.
