After firing Brad Bohannon as head coach of the Alabama baseball team during the 2023 season, the Crimson Tide cast a wide net in finding their permanent replacement. Today, they made their decision.
According to John Talty of 247Sports, Alabama are hiring Maryland head coach Rob Vaughn as their new head coach. Vaughn is coming off back-to-back seasons of at least 42 wins and three straight trips to the NCAA Regional.
Under Vaughn, Maryland won two Big Ten regular season titles and just won the 2023 Big Ten Tournament. He went 183-115 as head coach of the Terrapins over a six-year period.
Alabama fired Bohannon in May in the fallout of a sports gambling scandal. Jason Jackson took over as interim coach and led the Crimson Tide all the way to the NCAA Regional.
Talty reported that Alabama is expected to retain Jackson as a top assistant.

Alabama have not made it to the College World Series since the 1990s and that task hasn’t gotten any easier as the SEC continues to dominate college baseball.
If Rob Vaughn can bring the same success he had at Maryland to the SEC, the Crimson Tide could see their baseball program catch up with some of the other powers in short order.
