Brian Ferentz, the son of Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz, has landed a new job for the 2024 season.
According to InsideMDSports, Maryland is hiring Ferentz as an offensive analyst. He’ll serve as an additional voice for head coach Mike Locksley and offensive coordinator Josh Gattis during their daily meetings.
Maryland has not yet confirmed this hire.
Ferentz, 41, started his coaching career in 2008 with the New England Patriots. He then joined his father’s staff at Iowa in 2012.
After coaching Iowa’s offensive line from 2012-2016, Ferentz was promoted to offensive coordinator. He held that title through the 2023 season while also coaching several position groups.
Ferentz agreed to a pay cut prior to the 2023 season in large part because his offense was tough to watch in 2022. His unit needed to average 25 points per game in order for him to get certain bonuses. The Hawkeyes ultimately scored 15.4 points per game this past season.
Maryland fans aren’t exactly jumping for joy over this hire, but Ferentz won’t have a huge role. An argument can be made it’s a low-risk, high-reward move since he has a history of helping out offensive linemen.
