The Terps look to get back on track after losing four straight games.
Maryland baseball is set for a busy midweek schedule. The Terps (14-18, 3-9 Big Ten) will host Georgetown Tuesday at 4 p.m. before traveling to Delaware Wednesday at 5 p.m.
Tuesday’s game against the Hoyas will stream on Big Ten Plus, while Wednesday’s contest against the Blue Hens will be available on FloBaseball.
Georgetown Hoyas (11-20, 1-2 Big East)
2024 record: 36-21, 13-7 Big East
Head coach Edwin Thompson has significantly improved the program across five years at the helm. Under his leadership, the Hoyas set a program record with 36 wins in 2024, while also breaking single-season records for hits (570), RBIs (418) and runs scored (435).
Georgetown has struggled in 2025, though, with losing records in and out of conference play.
Hitters to watch
Blake Schaaf, sophomore middle infielder, No. 7 — Schaaf has become a steady presence in the lineup, leading the team with a .337 batting average, 31 runs scored, 33 hits and 17 RBIs. The sophomore has made a significant leap from his freshman campaign in 2024, where he hit just .235 with 12 runs and 16 hits.
Kavi Caster, graduate outfielder, No. 42 — Caster is a returning power threat, hitting .318 with 25 RBIs and 22 runs this season. He’s coming off a standout 2024 campaign where he batted .322, and notched 27 runs, 56 hits and 48 RBIs.
Ashtin Gilio, sophomore outfielder, No. 14 — Gilio has become a reliable contributor in his second season, batting .308 with 28 hits, 15 RBIs and 23 runs. A perfect 10 for 10 on stolen base attempts, he adds speed and versatility to Georgetown’s lineup.
Pitchers to watch
Johan Franco, sophomore right-handed pitcher, No. 13 — Franco has shown significant promise for Georgetown this season with a 5.79 ERA across 18.2 innings. Despite some early season struggles, Franco’s ability to bounce back and control the game stands out.
Derek Yoo, graduate right-handed pitcher, No. 19 — Yoo has been a big help out of the bullpen and as a starter this season, posting a perfect ERA over 11 innings.
Kai Leckszas, junior right-handed pitcher, No. 4 — Leckszas has been a dominant and reliable arm out of the bullpen this season with a 2.77 ERA across 26 innings. His performance this season has been a major improvement from his 2024 season, where he posted a 5.35 ERA.
Strength
Speed on the bases. Georgetown has shown strong base running skills, with four players posting double-digit steals.
Weakness
Defensive depth. While the starting defense has been solid, other players have been tested, and Georgetown has struggled to maintain defensive consistency when substitutions are made. Depth issues could hurt it Tuesday.
Delaware Blue Hens (17-13, 5-4 Coastal Athletic Association)
2024 Record: 31-26, 16-11 CAA
Head coach Greg Mamula is in his third season with the Blue Hens. In 2024, Delaware finished with a 31-26 overall record, marking the program’s best performance since 2017. The team made its second consecutive appearance in the CAA Tournament last season, advancing to the semifinals with a standout 18-8 victory over William & Mary. Delaware’s offense ranked at the top of the CAA last season with 8.4 runs per game and 105 total home runs.
Despite a few obstacles for the Blue Hens this season, Delaware has continued to show resilience and look to build momentum heading into the back half of the season.
Hitters to watch
Aaron Graeber, senior outfielder, No. 22 — Graeber has been a standout for Delaware, hitting .348 this season with 33 runs and 31 RBIs. He posted a .312 average and 14 home runs in 2024, leading Delaware’s offense with experience and power.
Aiden Stewart, junior infielder, No. 5 — A key offensive contributor, Stewart is batting .345 this season with a .486 on-base percentage. He hit .265 with 28 runs in 2024.
Jackson Tyer, redshirt junior outfielder, No. 23 — Tyer is hitting .293 with 20 runs, 13 RBIs and six stolen bases. He posted a .265 average, 12 runs, and 13 hits in 2024.
Pitchers to watch
Ryan McLaughin, redshirt freshman right-handed pitcher, No. 33 — McLaughin has been a solid contributor for Delaware’s pitching staff this season, holding a 6.35 ERA across 28.1 innings. His best outing came against Stony Brook, where he struck out five batters and allowed just one earned run in three innings.
Jonah Richardson, freshman right-handed pitcher, No. 32 — Richardson posts an 11.4 ERA across 15 innings. He posted a standout performance against FIU, pitching three scoreless innings and allowing just one hit.
Jake Pollaro, freshman left-handed pitcher, No. 42 — Pollaro has made an impact on the mound with a solid 2.65 ERA across 17 innings. His ability to consistently keep opposing hitters off balance makes him a key piece of the pitching staff.
Strength
Offense. Delaware’s lineup is a significant strength, with consistent offensive production from start to finish. Its offensive depth allows it to generate runs in various ways and keep pressure on the opposing pitching staff throughout games. The Blue Hens rank third in the CAA with 35 home runs and fourth with 225 total runs.
Weakness
Inconsistent pitching. Despite some strong performances, Delaware’s pitching staff has struggled with consistency. The team has allowed an abundance of runs, walks and hits at times, which can put additional stress on the offense. The Blue Hens have allowed double-digit runs seven times this year.
Three things to know
1. Georgetown is hungry. Like Maryland, Georgetown has yet to win a three-game weekend series this season. Both teams will likely be jockeying for some much-needed momentum Tuesday.
2. Delaware in College Park. The Blue Hens came to College Park in February and walked away with a 13-10 victory, handing Maryland a tough loss. Delaware exploded for two four-run innings and held off a late Maryland rally. The Terps look to even the score in Wednesday’s matchup.
3. Georgetown’s road issues. The Hoyas have struggled away from home all season with a 2-10 record in road games. Tuesday’s game in College Park gives Georgetown another tough road test — an advantage the Terps may need.
