Gattis spent two seasons at Maryland.
Maryland football is expected to part ways with offensive coordinator Josh Gattis after two seasons, John Brice of FootballScoop first reported Tuesday.
The change comes after a disappointing year for the Terps, who finished 4-8 and missed out on bowl eligibility for the first time since 2020. Maryland’s offense averaged 23.7 points per game this season, the 11th-best mark in the Big Ten and the program’s lowest output since 2020.
Head coach Michael Locksley took over play-calling duties following the team’s first bye week in early October, while Gattis, the 2021 Broyles Award winner as the nation’s top assistant coach, still served as the offensive coordinator. From that point on, Maryland averaged 16.7 points per game.
Gattis’ first year in College Park started strong with a 5-0 record, but difficulty in Big Ten play resulted in an 8-5 finish, with the team averaging 29.7 points per game on the season, the fourth-best mark in the conference.
Without Taulia Tagovailoa — the Big Ten’s all-time leading passer who graduated last year — under center, the Terps struggled to maintain consistent offensive production.
Gattis served as an offensive assistant at Miami, Michigan, Alabama and Penn State prior to his time at Maryland.
