Maryland assistant offensive line coach Damian Wroblewski announced this Saturday that his son Michael has passed away after a battle with cancer. He was just 15 years old.
Earlier this afternoon, the Maryland football team issued a statement on the loss of Michael Wroblewski.
“The Maryland football family sadly mourns the passing of Damian Michael Wroblewski Jr.,” the school said. “Coach Wroblewski, his wife Kara and their entire family is in our thoughts and prayers. If you’re able to, please consider helping by raising awareness or donating towards pediatric brain tumor research in Damian Junior’s honor.”
Prior to Maryland releasing this statement, Wroblewski wrote a letter about his son’s journey. It was equally beautiful as it was heartbreaking.
“He loved going fast, running and racing. Whenever we wanted him to do something, we’d make it a race. The only race we ever wanted him to lose to us was going to heaven,” Wroblewski wrote in a heartbreaking statement. “Just like when we went skiing, he beat me. We will see you when we get there.”
Wroblewski added that his son would like to be remembered for always being so joyful. He said he’d find a way to smile even on his toughest days.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Wroblewski family.
