Jacob was the Terps’ highest-ranked recruit in the class of 2024.
Maryland football freshman safety Brandon Jacob announced Wednesday on Instagram that he intends to enter the transfer portal.
Jacob, a 6-foot-1, 194-pound Florida native, played in eight games as a freshman and totaled nine tackles (seven solo). He was a four-star prospect coming out of high school and the Terps’ highest-ranked recruit in the class of 2024.
The move comes as a bit of a surprise for Maryland. Jacob was in line to step into a starting role in 2025 with Dante Trader Jr. and Glen Miller both expected to depart for the NFL Draft. He’ll unquestionably be pursued heavily in the portal.
Jacob’s exit leaves more playing time for redshirt sophomore Lavain Scruggs, redshirt freshman Alex Moore and freshman Shamar McIntosh, the three remaining safeties on the roster. Messiah Delhomme, a four-star athlete in the 2025 class who signed with Maryland Wednesday, could also see significant playing time as a freshman.
