Former Maryland guard Kevin MCLinton passed away this Thursday at the age of 52.
McLinton played at Maryland from 1989-1993, averaging 11.3 points, 5.2 assists and 4.1 rebounds per game.
During his senior season with the Terrapins, McLinton averaged 15.8 points and 6.3 assists per contest. To this day, he still ranks inside the top 10 for total assists in program history.
Moments ago, Maryland released a statement regarding McLinton’s death.
“The Maryland Men’s Basketball family mourns the passing of former guard Kevin McLinton, who played 91 games as a Terp and was a co-captain his senior season,” the Terrapins said. “We send our thoughts and prayers to his family and friends.”
Rudy Gersten, a diehard Maryland fan, also had some words to share about McLinton.
“Sad news to share for Terp nation. Kevin McLinton, starting PG and co-captain in the early Gary Williams era, has died,” said Gersten. “He was 52. Father of 2, son of all time Redskins great Harold McLinton, Kevin led Springbrook to state titles in football & basketball before MD. Rest In Peace.”
Our thoughts are with McLinton’s loved ones at this time.
