Maryland women’s tennis defeated BYU, 4-2, Saturday in the Terps’ second and final match at Intercollegiate Tennis Association Kickoff Weekend.
The Terps began doubles play with Kallista Liu and Ema Kovacevic, securing a 6-2 win in the No. 1 doubles match, while BYU responded by taking the No. 2 doubles match, 6-3. Maryland clinched the doubles point in dramatic fashion, as the No. 3 doubles duo rallied from a 4-2 deficit to win 7-5.
In singles play, Maryland extended its lead to 3-0 with victories in the No. 5 and No. 6 matches. However, BYU mounted a comeback by winning the No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches, narrowing the score to 3-2. The Terps sealed the overall victory when Oliwia Orlinska secured a decisive win in the No. 4 singles match.
