Maryland men’s basketball’s Derik Queen was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, it was announced Monday. Queen is the first Terp to earn the award since Jalen Smith in 2018-19.
Led by Queen, Maryland went 2-0 last week with a 108-37 win over Canisius and a 76-75 win over Villanova in the Saatva Empire Classic. In those games, he averaged 16 points, 8.5 rebounds and three assists per game, while shooting 13-of-20 (.650) from the floor.
Against Villanova, Queen posted 22 points — including a game-winning free throw — 11 rebounds and five assists.
