Maryland women’s soccer on Tuesday announced the hiring of former Maryland midfielder Michael Marchino as an assistant coach.
Marchiano’s was previously an assistant with the Loyola (Md.) men’s soccer program for six seasons before being named Drexel’s head coach in 2020. He led the Dragons to two straight conference tournament appearances, which hadn’t been done at Drexel in nearly a decade.
In his playing career, Marchiano won two national championships with Maryland in 2005 and 2008 and was a two-time captain.
“The connection I have with this university runs deep and I am super excited to be back in College Park,” Marchiano said in a release. “There is work to do to achieve our goals of winning consistently at the highest levels. I can not wait to get started with the staff and the players.”
Marchiano joins a staff looking to turn Maryland around after this year’s team finished last in the Big Ten with no conference wins.
