This is a Maryland Minute, a short story followed by a roundup of Terps-related news.
Three Maryland football defensive backs and five Terps in total entered the transfer portal Monday and Tuesday.
Maryland’s secondary struggled mightily this season — allowing the third-most passing yards per game in the Big Ten — and the unit will now be without sophomore Kevis Thomas, redshirt sophomore Perry Fisher and redshirt freshman Jonathan Atkins next year. Former four-star safety Brandon Jacob also announced his intentions to enter the portal last week.
Thomas and Fisher each played and struggled at times in the 2024 campaign. Thomas appeared in eight games, recording 21 tackles (15 solo) and two passes defended, while Fisher played in nine games and posted 27 tackles (24 solo) and two passes defended. Atkins played in just two games.
Offensive lineman Kyle Long and wide receiver Zeke Avit also entered the transfer portal, but did not receive much playing time this season.
