Maryland’s Simone Cooper was named Big Ten indoor track and field Freshman of the Week, it was announced Wednesday.
Cooper won the shot put at the season-opening meet and was the only competitor to surpass the 13-meter mark, hitting 13.30 meters.
Since joining the Big Ten, Cooper is just the fourth Terp ever to earn a weekly track and field honor and the first since the 2020-21 season. Cooper was one of five Terps who won an event.
Maryland will return to the fold at the Nittany Lion Challenge hosted by Penn State on Jan. 18.
