This is a Maryland Minute, a short story followed by a roundup of Terps-related news.
Maryland football defensive lineman Lavon Johnson withdrew from the transfer portal Thursday after entering it three days earlier, 247Sports and CBS Sports first reported.
The 6-foot-2, 310-pound sophomore primarily played defensive tackle for the Terps in 2024, totaling 14 tackles (10 solo) and 0.5 tackles for loss in eight games. He played in 10 games as a freshman, recording five tackles and a sack.
Johnson could step into a major role for Maryland in 2025. Jordan Phillips is headed to the NFL Draft and Tommy Akingbesote is out of eligibility — those two were the Terps’ primary defensive tackle contributors in 2024. Maryland also brought in Eyan Thomas, a 336-pound redshirt sophomore defensive lineman, as a transfer from Saint Francis (PA).
