Maryland men’s basketball center Derik Queen was named an Associated Press All-America Honorable Mention, it was announced Wednesday.
The freshman added to his already loaded season of honors, which includes Big Ten Freshman of the Year and an All-Big Ten first-team selection. Queen is the first Terp to earn All-America honors since Jalen Smith received a third-team nod in 2020. He’s also the first Maryland freshman since Joe Smith in 1994 to get All-America honors.
Queen currently leads all freshmen in the nation with 14 double-doubles, and enters the NCAA Tournament with the second-highest points per game average all-time among Maryland freshmen (16.3). Queen is a finalist for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year award as well.
