This is the Maryland Minute, a short story followed by a roundup of Terps-related news.
Maryland men’s lacrosse’s Daniel Kelly, Ajax Zappitello and Luke Wierman were named to the NCAA All-Tournament team on Monday following the team’s loss in the national championship to Notre Dame.
Kelly scored three goals in Maryland’s semifinal win over Virginia on Saturday and two goals in the championship game, both of which were team-highs. He also added two groundballs, while shooting 50%.
Zappitello was taxed with guarding the opposing team’s primary offensive facilitator all weekend. He caused a team-high four turnovers and scooped up three groundballs in two games.
Wierman dominated the faceoff X in both games, winning 15 of 22 faceoffs against Virginia and 17 of 24 against the Fighting Irish for a combined win percentage of .696. He also recorded 16 groundballs and a goal this weekend.
