Maryland football redshirt freshman running back Nolan Ray was selected as one of the 37 candidates for The Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award watch list, the Maxwell Football Club announced Wednesday.
Ray suffered a season-ending injury last year, and thus redshirted his first season in College Park. He appeared in one game — the season opener against Towson — in which he rushed three time for seven yards.
Ray was a three-star running back coming out of high school and is expected to be a primary contributor in Maryland’s backfield alongside Roman Hemby and Colby McDonald.
