Former Oklahoma kicker Gavin Marshall transferred to Maryland on Wednesday.
The Terrapins welcomed Marshall to the program after two seasons with the Sooners. The redshirt sophomore, who has three years of collegiate eligibility remaining, is eager to get started.
“Let’s go!” Marshall wrote. “Excited to get to work!”
Marshall made the longest field goal (49 yards) ever at Florida’s IMG Academy, where he also converted all 60 extra-point attempts. The former five-star recruit from Frisco, Texas, made two extra points in Oklahoma’s Week 1 win over Arkansas State last season.
Marshall originally planned on transferring to Vanderbilt this offseason. However, SEC rules would have forced him to sit out the 2024 season if joining one of Oklahoma’s new conference opponents.
He’ll instead go to Maryland, which added current New England Patriots kicker Chad Ryland through the transfer portal two years ago. Jack Howes made 13 of 19 field goals for the Terps last season.
Per Wesley Brown of Inside MD Sports, Marshall decided to join Maryland after visiting last weekend. He already had a connection to the program, as chief of staff Brian Griffin worked for IMG Academy during Marshall’s time there.
Marshall also touted the school’s “amazing” facilities, noting that they have six goalposts compared to one at Oklahoma.
“I just told them, ‘This is the place I want to be. I know my options. And I’ve thought through this, and I’ve come to this decision that I want to be here and I want to be at Maryland,'” Marshall said.
