Farooq was a former four-star recruit from Maryland.
Maryland football earned its second commitment in the 2025 transfer portal cycle from Oklahoma senior wide receiver Jalil Farooq, he announced on Instagram Friday.

Due to a foot injury, Farooq only played in two games this season — in which he caught three passes for 58 yards. He was fairly productive over his sophomore and junior seasons, though, totaling 82 catches for 1,160 yards and seven touchdowns. He also rushed the ball 33 times for 240 yards and returned 31 kicks during that span.
Before Oklahoma, Farooq played at Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, where he was a four-star recruit and the No. 24 wide receiver in his class, per 247Sports.
Listed at 6-foot-1 and 208 pounds, Farooq could establish himself as a top option in Maryland’s offense next year with the departures of Tai Felton, Roman Hemby, Preston Howard, Dylan Wade and likely Kaden Prather.
Farooq joins Tennessee wide receiver Kaleb Webb as the Terps’ only transfer additions thus far. Farooq has one season of eligibility remaining.
