There are more reasons than ever for players to transfer these days and Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa revealed a big one.
At Big Ten Media Day, Tagovailoa revealed that he received an offer of “crazy money” to transfer to an unnamed SEC team. The amount in question? $1.5 million.
Tagovailoa admitted that if it weren’t for his current situation, he might have been more easily tempted to take the offer. Ultimately, he chose to forego the 2023 NFL Draft and stay at Maryland with the Terrapins for the 2023 season.
“It can be eye-opening, but I think for my situation — if I was in a different situation where maybe I didn’t have a brother in the NFL or maybe my parents, it’d be a different situation,” Tagovailoa said, via The Athletic.
Transfer QBs are aplenty in the Big Ten this season with Purdue’s Hudson Card, Wisconsin’s Tanner Mordecai and Nebraska’s Jeff Sims among the contingent at media days.

Taulia Tagovailoa earned Second-Team All-Big Ten honors in 2022 and has over 6,800 passing yards with 44 touchdowns over the past two seasons at Maryland.
There’s a solid chance that Tagovailoa ranks among the best quarterbacks in the Big Ten again this year as several schools are transitioning to new starters.
As for the “crazy money” offer, it looks like some SEC team is going to have to look elsewhere.
