Free agent pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney is looking to play for his sixth NFL team in the last seven seasons and while it’s not clear where he wants to play in 2024, one team on his recent visitation list seems very eager to bring him into the fold.
According to Bleacher Report NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the New York Jets have remained in “constant contact” with Clowney since their visit with him earlier this week. Schultz reported that the Jets are considered “highly motivated” to sign Clowney amid interest from the Carolina Panthers and the Baltimore Ravens.
“Following Jadeveon Clowney’s visit with the #Jets, he and the organization have remained in constant contact, with one source describing New York as “highly motivated” to try and secure a deal with Clowney. I’m told both the #Panthers and #Ravens remain interested in him as well, after his 9.5-sack season in Baltimore,” Schultz wrote.
Clowney started 15 of 17 games for the Ravens in 2023, tying his career-high with 9.5 sacks while adding nine tackles for loss and 19 QB hits. He also had 43 tackles, five passes defended and two forced fumbles.
A year like that will certainly earn Clowney a big contract, though with the way the Jets have been giving out contracts, they’re likely trying to sign him to an incentive-laden deal with limited money up front and lots of performance bonuses.
If the Ravens or Panthers can offer him a better deal, there might be nothing the Jets can do.
Will the Jets sign Clowney?
