The Baltimore County Public School Board of Education elected a new chair and vice chair at its meeting Tuesday night with the leadership changes effective immediately.
Jane E. Lichter, a former special education and language arts teacher, was elected chair. Robin Harvey, a social worker and the current executive director of the Maryland Department of Human Services Office of Licensing and Monitoring, was elected vice chair.
Harvey, who was nominated by student board member Ugonma Chike-Kalu, won the position over current vice chair Christina Pumphrey, who was nominated to serve another year by board member Felicia Stolusky.
The new chairs began their terms at the meeting, switching seats with their predecessors after the votes. Both positions are one-year appointments.
Lichter, representing District 2, replaced outgoing chair Tiara Booker-Dwyer. She and Harvey, who represents District 1, previously served as the board’s chair and vice chair in the 2022-2023 session, according to the board’s website. During Tuesday’s meeting, Lichter thanked Booker-Dwyer and vice chair Pumphrey for their service over the past year.
