The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore collapsed early Tuesday morning, sending multiple cars into the Patapsco River. The bridge collapsed after a container ship crashed right into a support column.
Baltimore had to launch a search-and-rescue operation to look for the people that were sent into the river. We’re still waiting for another update on this situation.
On Tuesday morning, the Baltimore Ravens released a statement regarding this unthinkable tragedy.
“Our hearts go out to those who have been affected by the horrific Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse early this morning,” the Ravens said. “We are grateful for the first responders and local leaders who are on scene to lead the search and rescue efforts and to support those families who have been most directly impacted.
“We know that the Baltimore community will stand together in the aftermath of this tragic event.”
United States Sen. Ben Cardin said the ship didn’t purposely hit the Francis Scott Key Bridge. It apparently lost steering due to a power outage.
“What’s been indicated is the vessel lost power, and when you lose power you lose steering,” Cardin said. “But they’re doing a full investigation.”
Our thoughts remain with those who have been impacted by this tragedy.
