Former first-round quarterback Anthony Richardson will likely be on the trade block during the NFL Draft. According to reports, one source believes the Indianapolis Colts could trade the quarterback and rebuild their offense from scratch. After signing veteran Daniel Jones, the team may be exploring options, especially in this year’s draft, for finding their next signal-caller. The Colts are not giving up on Richardson, but he is on the hot seat if he doesn’t improve this year.
Originally selected in the 2023 NFL Draft, the former Florida product hasn’t been able to showcase his abilities on the field as much as he would like to. In his rookie year, things were looking promising as the head coach named him the starter for the campaign ahead of Gardner Minshew and Sam Ehlinger. However, the season didn’t go as planned as he would like after suffering an AC Joint, later undergoing surgery for it, which would sit him out for the rest of the rookie year. Despite that, the quarterback returned hoping to recover from his injuries, but they kept traveling with him through the 2024 campaign.
After suffering another injury, Richardson oddly took himself out of a matchup needing a “breather” as the Colts lost in that game. Joe Flacco came in for the benched Richardson, but it didn’t help the team garner any more wins, so the Colts eventually brought back Richardson. It wasn’t pretty, but there was some relief that he was able to finish off a season without any issues. With that, it shouldn’t be surprising if the Colts trade him to these two teams and stick to Jones as their starter for the time being while they draft a new signal-caller.
Breaking: Former NFL First Round Pick Anthony Richardson On Trade Block During NFL Draft – Saints, Ravens Logical Fits?
Rebuilding With Kellen Moore
Last season, there was a lot of excitement for the New Orleans Saints when the team had Derek Carr on fire for a few weeks, but that didn’t last long. After suffering his first injury, the Saints’ season turned into chaos, where rookie Spencer Rattler got some starting reps for the next few matchups in the 2024 campaign. However, it’s getting worse for the team that is looking for a signal-caller, even though they have Rattler, who they could start this upcoming season. Despite that, Rattler isn’t quite ready for full-time duties, and the Saints will probably take a quarterback during the first round.
Either way, the Saints need a signal-caller who’s already spent time in the league. Richardson might not be the ideal starter, but given their cap space, it’s something they could afford to boost the competition in the quarterback room.
Learning From Lamar
Meanwhile, it’s never a bad idea to add more depth behind back-to-back MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson. After signing Cooper Rush, the Ravens have finally found a capable backup in case Jackson goes down with an injury. While Rush could be a phenomenal talent for the Ravens as a backup, the Ravens could roll the dice on Richardson.
This would be a win-win situation for both sides, looking for a new, fresh breath of air. Richardson could learn from Jackson and start for a new NFL roster in the next two seasons.
