Shame on The Baltimore Sun for printing “the sky is falling” commentary that urges President Joe Biden to pull out of the presidential race (“I was in D.C. on Jan. 6th; Biden must drop out to save our republic,” May 22). The author is wrong on so many counts it’s hard to enumerate them all.
First of all, while polls are not currently supporting Biden, it’s far too early to look at any poll seriously. The facts are that our economy is doing extremely well, we are at peace and the problem at the border, while serious, could have been resolved with passage of the bipartisan congressional bill on the border except for Republican opposition, so I look at the Republicans to blame for that situation.
Finally, the author who is a college professor, a profession in somewhat disrepute these days, attributes much of the Biden problems to his support of Israel and its war on terrorism. The fact is over 70% of Americans support Israel in that war and realize that a permanent ceasefire at this time simply means a victory for Hamas and terrorism which could continue to plague the Middle East with war.
A ceasefire will be appropriate only after the hostages are free and Hamas is totally defeated. We will always have nervous Nellies during the presidential campaign and we listen to them at our peril.
