A program meant to foster a greater understanding of the nation’s history and Carroll County’s2 role in that history has been launched.
The Celebrating America Summer Adventure Program is for students entering first through ninth grades and runs through Sept. 15.
The program is a history initiative supported by the Board of Carroll County Commissioners as well as local organizations and individuals to promote a greater understanding of American history and historically significant events, people and places particularly those in Carroll County, according to a county news release.
Bonnie Staub, tourism manager at Carroll County Tourism, said the program gives residents an opportunity to learn more about county history.
Participants must register on the Carroll County Public Library’s website. Badges are earned by reading books, visiting specific places and watching videos. The adventure is complete once a child earns eight badges. Prizes, including books, gift cards, and a laptop, will be drawn in October during an invitation-only event.
